Saudi Arabia’s pavilion at Expo 2025 in Osaka has won gold in the Cultural Architecture, Interactive and Experiential Spaces category at the New York Architectural Design Awards, organisers announced on Monday 26, May.

The pavilion was designed by the Saudi Architecture and Design Commission in collaboration with Foster + Partners, a globally renowned studio for sustainable architecture and design.

The Saudi pavilion blends modern sustainability with cultural storytelling, highlighting shared values between Saudi Arabia and Japan.

Using passive cooling techniques and strategically placed ventilation blocks, the structure employs low-carbon materials and solar energy while ensuring full accessibility, including Braille signage and inclusive pathways for visitors with disabilities.

Since its launch on April 13, 2025, the pavilion has welcomed over half a million visitors and hosted more than 175 events, including cultural performances, business forums, and media showcases, as well as over 400 VIP delegations.

The award and global recognition align with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, a national transformation strategy that seeks to diversify the Kingdom’s economy and elevate its cultural, tourism, and creative sectors.

In recent years, Saudi Arabia has invested heavily in international art exhibitions, heritage restoration projects, and global partnerships aimed at reshaping its image and boosting cultural diplomacy.

The award comes as Expo 2025 continues to draw international attention. Expected to attract over 28 million visitors by its conclusion in October, the Expo provides a global platform for participating countries to showcase innovation and promote cross-cultural understanding.
