The Souq Al-Mawsim, or “Season Market,” officially opened on Sunday, 9 November in the Al-Tawalie district of Diriyah, marking the beginning of a celebration that merges the historical and cultural richness of Saudi Arabia with that of Japan.

This year’s edition holds particular significance as it commemorates 70 years of diplomatic relations between the two nations, focusing on the rich heritage of Kyoto.

Designed to evoke the lively atmosphere of traditional marketplaces, the Souq Al-Mawsim features 20 shops and 15 restaurants, alongside craft and traditional fashion exhibitions.

The market also offers spaces for traditional Saudi cooking, artistic performances, and areas dedicated to fostering collaboration between Saudi and Japanese artisans.

Historically, Souq Al-Mawsim has served as a vital hub for trade and cultural exchange since the First Saudi State, making it one of the oldest markets in the Arabian Peninsula.

Its revival as an annual event aims to honor the deep-rooted ties between Saudi Arabia and a selected guest country each year.

This year, with Japan as the guest of honor, attendees can look forward to live performances, workshops, and a range of traditional foods and crafts that celebrate the best of both cultures.

At Souq Al-Mawsim, the meeting of civilizations comes alive amid an atmosphere rich with history and hospitality.
