Riyadh’s landscape is changing – and it’s not just about skyscrapers and megaprojects. With the official opening of the first phase of the Sports Boulevard, the Saudi capital is making bold moves to become one of the world’s most livable cities.
Stretching 83 kilometers from Wadi Hanifah in the west to the city’s eastern edge, the Sports Boulevard offers a unique blend of cycling trails, pedestrian paths, green spaces, and cultural landmarks, all designed to encourage a healthier, more active lifestyle. Whether you’re a dedicated cyclist, a casual stroller, or someone who just loves finding new spots to hang out with friends, the Sports Boulevard is designed for you.
Five New Destinations to Explore
The newly opened phase includes five unique destinations, each offering a different experience – from scenic nature escapes to cutting-edge design and high-energy sports parks.
1. Wadi Hanifah: A Natural Escape
Located in western Riyadh, Wadi Hanifah stretches 13.4 kilometers along a restored natural valley, blending walking paths, cycling trails, and green rest areas. The paths wind past historic sites, like Diriyah Gate, giving visitors a glimpse of Saudi heritage while they enjoy the fresh air.
2. The Promenade: Your New Weekend Hangout
If you love a good walk (or ride) with a view, The Promenade is where you’ll want to be. Spanning 4 kilometers, it connects directly to Wadi Hanifah via the Cycling Bridge, one of the most iconic features of the Sports Boulevard. The promenade offers cycling lanes for pros and beginners, plus shaded rest stops, children’s playgrounds, water features, and bike rental kiosks.
It’s the perfect place for a family outing, a relaxed evening walk, or an Instagram-worthy bike ride.
3. The Arts Tower: A Creative Landmark
Riyadh’s skyline has a new addition – and it’s unlike anything you’ve seen before. The Arts Tower, located at the intersection of Prince Mohammed bin Salman Road and Prince Turki bin Abdulaziz Al-Awwal Road, is a striking installation inspired by the high-voltage electricity towers that once stood here. Its colorful panels catch the sunlight, creating ever-changing reflections, making it a must-see for art lovers and photographers.

4. Princess Nourah University Loop: Fitness Meets Campus Life
If you study or work at Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University, your campus just got a major upgrade. The 20-kilometer loop track encircling the university is open to both the public and the university community. With dedicated walking and cycling paths, it’s designed to encourage students, staff, and visitors to get moving between classes – or simply enjoy a scenic walk around one of the region’s most beautiful campuses.
5. Sands Sports Park: A Playground for Adventure Seekers
For those who prefer their fitness with a side of adrenaline, Sands Sports Park near King Khalid International Airport is a dream come true. The park offers mountain bike trails, BMX tracks, and hiking paths through rehabilitated sand dunes. The highlight? The Najdi Flower, a 45-kilometer cycling route designed for professional riders.
With bike rentals, gear shops, and plans for future sports facilities, it’s set to become a major hub for adventure sports in Riyadh.
A Path to a Healthier, More Connected Riyadh
Whether you’re a cyclist chasing long-distance routes, a university student looking for a new jogging track, or a family wanting a beautiful green space for the weekend, the Sports Boulevard offers something for everyone. More than just a fitness corridor, it’s a new way to experience Riyadh – outdoors, active, and together.
The first five destinations officially opened to the public on Thursday 27 February 2025.
