Riyadh’s Ambitious New ‘North Pole’ District to Feature the World’s Tallest Tower

April 15, 2025

Saudi Arabia is setting new global benchmarks in urban development with the North Pole Megaproject, an expansive 306-square-kilometer Central Business District (CBD) in North Riyadh.

The Public Investment Fund (PIF) has officially invited leading global firms to bid on a consultancy contract for the project, which will feature the world’s tallest tower, standing at an unprecedented two kilometers high.

Designed as a fully integrated city, North Pole is set to redefine Riyadh’s economic landscape, blending residential, commercial, and industrial districts with entertainment hubs, green spaces, cultural institutions, and cutting-edge healthcare and educational facilities.

Positioned strategically near Expo 2030 and the New Murabba, the district will support Saudi Arabia’s goal of making Riyadh a global business and tourism hub, attracting investors, entrepreneurs, and international companies to its futuristic infrastructure.

Rise Tower: A Record-Breaking Architectural Marvel

At the heart of North Pole will stand Rise Tower, a two-kilometer-tall skyscraper, designed by Foster + Partners, a firm renowned for its visionary architecture. With a USD 5 billion construction budget, the tower will double the height of Dubai’s Burj Khalifa, making it the tallest structure ever built.

Beyond its engineering feat, Rise Tower is envisioned as a premier global destination, featuring luxury hotels offering breathtaking views above the clouds, sky-high observation decks for panoramic cityscapes, fine dining restaurants with futuristic culinary experiences and exclusive corporate spaces for high-level business engagements.

As one of the most anticipated megaprojects in the world, the tower will serve as both a tourist attraction and a global business hub.

The development will feature:

  • Advanced transportation infrastructure, including a high-speed metro system and self-driving electric vehicles to ensure efficient connectivity
  • Eco-friendly energy solutions, with the entire district powered by renewable energy sources
  • Green urban spaces integrated throughout, balancing modern city life with environmental consciousness
  • Vertical city living, maximizing space efficiency while offering world-class urban facilities

By incorporating sustainable architecture and cutting-edge technology, North Pole aims to become a global model for the future of urban design.

A Global Hub for Business and Tourism

With its strategic location near Expo 2030, the project aligns with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, positioning Riyadh as a key global economic and tourism center.

As Saudi Arabia continues to invest over USD 800 billion into tourism over the next decade, attracting 70 million international visitors per year by 2030, projects like North Pole ensure that the Kingdom remains a leader in innovative city development.

With the world’s tallest tower as its centerpiece, North Pole is poised to become an architectural and economic landmark, offering unparalleled opportunities for businesses, investors, and visitors alike.
