Saudi Arabia has launched a new artificial intelligence company, HUMAIN, with the backing of the Public Investment Fund (PIF), as part of its push to become a global leader in advanced technology and the digital economy.
The announcement was made on Monday by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who also serves as Prime Minister and Chairman of PIF’s Board of Directors, reported the Saudi Press Agency.
According to the Saudi Press Agency, HUMAIN will operate as a unified entity across the entire AI value chain. Its core offerings will include AI products and services, next-generation data centers, cloud infrastructure, and some of the most powerful Arabic-language AI models currently in development.
The company is also set to play a leading role in producing and deploying AI tools that enhance human capabilities and power digital transformation at home and abroad.
HUMAIN’S GOAL
The launch of HUMAIN comes as Saudi Arabia intensifies efforts to build a robust AI ecosystem. The Kingdom was ranked among the top countries for government AI strategy in the 2024 Global AI Index, underscoring its growing prominence in the field. Recent initiatives taken by the government include introducing a high-school AI course.
With a young, digitally connected population, rapid economic transformation and a strategic location linking Asia, Africa and Europe, Saudi Arabia is well positioned to attract investment and lead innovation in AI.
HUMAIN is expected to streamline and integrate several key initiatives. These include centralizing the development of AI infrastructure, procuring cutting-edge hardware and accelerating AI adoption across key sectors such as energy, healthcare, finance and manufacturing. The company also aims to support homegrown research, intellectual property creation and the development of Arabic-language AI technologies tailored to local and regional needs.
By consolidating efforts under HUMAIN, the PIF is looking to create a central platform that drives both regional and global impact. The company will work to establish Saudi Arabia as an international hub for AI, serving as a magnet for talent and investment. It will also support the Kingdom’s broader Vision 2030 goals, particularly in diversifying the economy and building high-tech industries.
