Jax Film Studios: Riyadh’s New Production Hub Set to Open in 2025

May 18, 2025

The Saudi Film Commission has announced the launch of Jax Film Studios, a major new production facility in Riyadh that is set to become one of the most advanced in the region. The development signals the Kingdom’s deepening investment in film infrastructure as part of a broader effort to grow its media industry and attract international collaboration.

Jax Film Studios, scheduled for completion in 2025, will cover more than 7,000 square meters. It will include two soundstages, each measuring 1,500 square meters, along with a high-tech virtual production stage powered by Sony’s latest screen technology. The site is also set to feature a private cinema, reception areas, meeting rooms, production preparation zones, dining facilities, and a VIP lounge.

Located in Riyadh’s Jax District, the complex is positioned near major hotels, an international airport, and a growing pool of creative and technical professionals. According to the Film Commission, all key production services – including crews, equipment, and post-production – will be accessible within a 20-minute radius.

“JAX Film Studios represents a key milestone in our strategy to build a world-class cinema ecosystem in Saudi Arabia,” said Abdullah Al-Qahtani, CEO of the Film Commission, repoted the Saudi Gazette.

In a statement on X, the Saudi Film Commission said that its objectives are to support local film production, enhance Saudi Arabia’s global cinematic presence, attract major international projects and empower local creative and technical talent.

The unveiling of Jax Film Studios comes during the Saudi Film Commission’s participation at the 78th Cannes International Film Festival. At Cannes, the Commission is hosting a dedicated pavilion and engaging with international filmmakers, producers, and media executives to showcase the Kingdom’s growing capabilities in the film sector.

In addition to infrastructure, the Commission continues to invest in talent development and international partnerships. Jax Film Studios is expected to play a central role in these efforts, supporting Saudi productions while encouraging foreign filmmakers to shoot and produce their projects in the Kingdom.
