From 2 to 12 September, the seventh Crown Prince Camel Festival in Taif witnessed a historic moment as Saudi women riders made their mark by winning cups and setting records for the first time.

Reema Al-Shuwaie claimed victory in the first main round with her camel, Absher, while Hadeel Al-Sharif triumphed in the second round aboard her camel, Mubshir.

Marwan Al-Johani, head of competition and registry manager at the Saudi Camel Race Federation, highlighted the significance of these achievements, stating that they reflect the growth of female participation in camel sports.

He attributed this progress to the support of Prince Fahad bin Jalawi bin Abdulaziz, emphasizing the heightened competition and performance standards among women riders.

The festival featured 249 races and attracted 78 riders from various countries, with total prize money exceeding SAR 50 million (approximately USD 13.3 million).

Murdhi Al-Khamaali, spokesperson for Saudi Camel Sports, noted that the festival has become a cultural movement, reviving the historical significance of Taif while elevating camel racing to a global platform.

With over 100,000 camels participating and multiple records set, the festival continues to celebrate the rich heritage and future of camel racing in Saudi Arabia.
