Uber Launches Women-Only Ride Option in Saudi Arabia to Expand Opportunities for Female Drivers

July 15, 2025

Uber has introduced a new ride feature in Saudi Arabia on Monday that allows women riders to be matched exclusively with women drivers, in a move aimed at supporting safer and more inclusive transportation.

The new feature, called Women Drivers, functions similarly to UberX and will gradually roll out across the Kingdom. It enables women to either request rides on demand or schedule them up to 30 minutes in advance via Uber Reserve.

The launch comes seven years after Saudi Arabia lifted its driving ban on women and aligns with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030, which aims to boost women’s participation in the workforce and the broader economy.

“Women across Saudi Arabia have demonstrated how mobility can unlock new possibilities,” said Yousef Abu Saif, General Manager of Uber in Saudi Arabia. “The launch of Women Drivers reflects our commitment to empowering women and supporting their mobility and economic independence.”

The feature also gives female drivers the option to accept ride requests only from women, a choice Uber says is designed to enhance safety and comfort for both passengers and drivers.

As part of the rollout, Uber has partnered with Al Nahda Society,  one of Saudi Arabia’s oldest women’s empowerment organizations, to support female drivers through training and financial literacy programs.

The collaboration builds on their previous work together under the Masaruky initiative,  a two-year program launched by Uber in Saudi Arabia to support women’s participation in the workforce by increasing their access to transportation and flexible, part-time work opportunities through the Uber platform.

Uber will also launch GigSister, a new community program that brings together women drivers to share experiences and support one another.

By expanding access and choice for riders while providing more opportunities for women behind the wheel, Uber’s initiative reflects a broader shift toward inclusive mobility in Saudi Arabia.
