Saudi Arabian Airlines announced on 9 October that one of its employees was killed and one of its aircraft was damaged in an attack on King Khalid International Airport in the Saudi capital on Thursday, 8 October.
The airline, the kingdom’s flag carrier known as Saudia, announced the death in a statement, offering condolences to the employee’s family. It said the damaged plane was on the ground at the time and that no passengers were aboard.
In a later statement, the airline identified the dead employee as Hamoud bin Ali al-Kalthami, a pilot, and extended its condolences to his family.
The airline said it activated emergency response procedures immediately after the incident, in coordination with the authorities, to manage the aftermath, monitor the condition of those affected, and provide care and support to them and their families.
Saudia announced its flights and operations at the airport returned to normal as of 6 p.m. on Thursday, and it would continue to monitor flight schedules and communicate with passengers through its official channels.
The airline’s statements did not describe the nature of the attack or say who was responsible, and they did not report any other casualties.
