King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre (KFSHRC) in Riyadh has introduced a new breast cancer diagnostic technique that allows patients to undergo biopsy and imaging in a single visit, reducing delays in diagnosis and treatment. In a press release sent to Saudi Streets, the hospital explained that its implementation of Contrast-Enhanced Mammography (CEM) as a guiding tool for biopsy represents a significant shift in the early detection and diagnosis of breast tumors, particularly those that are difficult to detect using conventional imaging techniques. This new approach allows physicians to pinpoint and collect tissue samples immediately during the CEM procedure. Previously, patients were often required to schedule an additional MRI-guided biopsy following initial imaging results. That process led to extended wait times, increased stress for patients, and greater healthcare costs. The new method streamlines the diagnostic journey, providing more timely results and enabling faster treatment planning. CEM works by using a contrast agent to highlight abnormalities that might not be visible through traditional mammography or ultrasound, making it especially valuable in detecting early-stage cancers or tumors in patients with dense breast tissue. KFSHRC first introduced contrast-enhanced mammography nearly a decade…
