Qiddiya Teams Up with Faldo Series to Develop Youth Golf in Saudi Arabia

August 5, 2025

Qiddiya City has announced a new partnership with the Faldo Series, marking a major step in Saudi Arabia’s efforts to grow grassroots golf and position itself as a regional destination for the sport. The agreement will see Qiddiya become a global partner of the Faldo Series, the world’s leading youth golf development initiative, while also unveiling a new Sir Nick Faldo-designed championship course scheduled to open in 2026.

The 18-hole course will be located within Qiddiya City, a 360 square kilometer development near Riyadh that is being positioned as a global hub for entertainment, sports, and culture. The facility will include a clubhouse, golf academy, driving range, and dedicated practice areas, with further amenities expected to open by 2028.

According to Qiddiya Investment Company Managing Director Abdullah bin Nasser Aldawood, the collaboration with the Faldo Series and the design by six-time major champion Sir Nick Faldo is part of a wider ambition to grow the game across the Kingdom. “Qiddiya City’s partnership with Sir Nick Faldo in designing a new golf course and becoming global partner of the Faldo Series underscores our commitment to growing the game of golf and nurturing the next generation of Saudi golfers,” he said in a statement.

The new course will feature a number of design elements aimed at accessibility and flexibility. Among them is a “3-hole return” layout system that allows players to play shorter loops, catering to different experience levels and time commitments. Floodlighting will also be installed to allow extended playing hours.

Sir Nick Faldo, speaking on the project, described the partnership as an opportunity to shape golf development in a country undergoing rapid transformation. “This is a unique opportunity to become involved in one of the most exciting cities being developed today,” said Faldo. “Our partnership with Qiddiya City brings together the golf community with a whole nation bubbling with energy to be active and try new sports.”

Set against the backdrop of the Tuwaiq Mountains, the new course is expected to combine scenic terrain with design suited for both professionals and amateurs. The accompanying academy will offer structured learning programs, including beginner-level training and skill development.

The golf project is part of a broader sports and leisure offering at Qiddiya City. The development will also host the Prince Mohammed Bin Salman Stadium, which will be one of the venues for the 2034 FIFA World Cup, the Speed Park motorsports track, Mercedes AMG World, and a new performing arts center. Qiddiya’s long-term strategy involves integrating sport and wellness with urban living, creating spaces that serve both competitive athletes and local communities.

The clubhouse will function as more than a sporting facility. Designed by Patterson Architects, the space will include wellness amenities, indoor and outdoor pools, dining areas, and event spaces. It is projected to attract over 200,000 visitors annually.
