Saudi Arabia and Germany have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to establish a strategic dialogue between their foreign ministers, according to a statement by the Saudi Foreign Ministry on Sunday, 6 September.
The MoU was signed in Berlin by Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan and German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul during a meeting focused on strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation between the two countries.
The new dialogue mechanism will provide a framework for consultation and coordination between the Saudi and German governments at the foreign minister level, with the aim of further developing ties across various fields.
The two ministers also discussed regional developments, including the security and safety of international waterways and freedom of navigation. They stressed the need to restore the Strait of Hormuz to its normal status, saying this would support regional stability and the flow of international trade.
They reaffirmed their support for peaceful and diplomatic efforts to resolve regional and international crises.
Economic and trade relations were also on the agenda, with the two sides discussing trade between Saudi Arabia and Germany and opportunities to expand cooperation and investment across different sectors.
Saudi Arabia and Germany have maintained diplomatic relations since 1954, with cooperation spanning trade, investment, energy, and political affairs.
